On November 3rd, 2017 Orange County Shorinji Kempo branch held a health seminar discussing health and weight management. The seminar was instructed by Rastogi sensei. 30 parents and students attended the seminar, which focused on 4 areas:
EATING SMARTER AND HEALTHIER
ENJOY EATING
STRESS MANAGEMENT
WEIGHT LOSS & IMPORTANCE OF EXERCISING
The seminar was interactive, where parents and students learned about sugar versus fat gain, and enjoying eating by chewing longer. The 4 main points discussed required a personal lifestyle discipline change.
Severely reduce sugar intake
Don't hold your food in your hand
Chew 50 times before swallowing
Rigorous exercise 3 times a week
The purpose of these 4 key points is to help you better manage your weight through one of the philosophical aspects of Shorinji Kempo called Ken Zen Ichi Nyo, where body and mind must work together in harmony.
Students and parents also learned various pressure points to reduce or alleviate headaches or body pains, improve blood flow and maximize energy levels, which was an essential part of the lesson.
The 1.5 hour seminar ended with each family receiving a weight scale that Rastogi sensei highly recommended to utilize on a daily basis to self-monitor your weight.
